Definitely a strong competitor for messaging as a whole as well. Skype is extremely high quality, then the voice calls are amazing. Video is great as well but lacks group video.

Make sure you go download the latest version. The Skype codec is the best audio codec for VOIP i have ever heard. Especially for it's bandwidth consumption.
