So with everything looking good, the video card arrives (probably after a month due to stock issues) and you throw it in your system and figure since you've just thrown together a nice X58 testbed with 6GB of memory, it's time to install Windows 7 64-bit and get into some serious gaming action over the holidays. So with everything installed, drivers done, thrown on some games, ran a 3DMark to make sure everything's where it should be and you say "Okay, I don't need any more power, but let's fire up the Special XFX Overvolt tool anyway and overclock this sucka..."

Opening up the XFX Overvolt program you find yourself denied! Hmm, this is weird you think, so you get in contact with XFX and the conversation goes a little like this: (note that his conversation involves Australian dollars and hasn't been edited) ...

SOURCE

Not really "news" technically...but I'm sure it's news to anyone contemplating an XFX 5970 who has Win7 64-bit. Full transcript after the jump.

I hope people start listening to me now about how XFX isn't as good as people think.
Wow. That's pretty pathetic. Jesus...

technically the software is there and working, just not for 32-bit oses. Like most windows games won't work on OSX.

I know ASUS Smart doctor has voltage tweaking, and msi after burner.

Indeed an epic fail from XfX but i found it a bit funny when he said "why didnt you tell me this back in november???" like it had been months of waiting and troubleshooting..... it had only been 6 days rofl....
for christ's sake, people are acting like they can't overclock the card without the program.

Still completely unacceptable, i paid 100$ extra for the card (mostly because it was the only 5970 available) and the ONLY difference is the overvolt tool.

Pretty lame, they need to fix this asap.

That's EXTREMELY pathetic.

I would say the majority of the users that purchase the black edition are enthusiasts running Windows 7 x64.

This is probably the biggest fail I've ever seen from XFX, even more so than the bad 4890 revision.

Venom; this UBER EXTREME OVERCLOCK EDITION EPIC WIN card with a $80 price premium comes bundled with UBER EXTREME OVERCLOCK EDITION software that does not work. There is no excuse.

XFX Fail? I'm curious what they'll say about this. I'm assuming they respond with something.
why must the software now adays even have to work with 32bit?

I wish it would only work for 64bit so we can get rid of this 3GB ram limit i do not consider worthy to wipe my butt with.

Don't need to sue them to hurt XFX, bottom line is all the people they are screwing over are the cash cow customers, the crazy people willing to pay 800$ for a graphics card and the ones they make the most money off of.

I was already pretty pissed that i had to pay a 100$ premium for this thing because it was the only one available, this is BS.
