Do you hate seeing messages like the example below?

OpenFile-SecurityWarning.png

Note: This is not specific to CPU-Z. This is just an example screenshot.

Do you wish that it would never even come up in the first place? If so, then follow the steps below!

  1. Open the Internet Options control panel (you can access this via Internet Explorer too). For quick access, open the Start Menu, type internet options, and press Enter.
  2. Switch to the Security tab (screenshot)
  3. Click the button labeled "Custom level..." (screenshot)
  4. Find the "Miscellaneous" heading (screenshot)
  5. Scroll down from here and look for "Launching applications and unsafe files" (screenshot)
  6. Choose Enable (screenshot)
  7. Click OK and then say "Yes" to this.
  8. Now the Security tab in the Internet Options control panel looks like this. Click OK.

Now some of you might say "but all you have to do is disable "Always ask before opening this file". True, but only if you intend on opening it more than once.

You see, I'm mostly talking about installers here: they're only needed once.

Anyway, there you have it. If you follow these instructions, then you'll never see this message ever again.

Following this tutorial means that you will never again see this "Security Warning". Ever.

So try this:
  1. Download an installer that you don't have for something, such as an installer for a different NVIDIA display driver. For me, that would be 280.26.
  2. Before following this tutorial, try to open it.
  3. Do not un-check "Always ask before opening this file". Leave it enabled.
  4. Click Cancel.
  5. Now follow this tutorial.
  6. Open that freshly downloaded file again

You sir just made me save about 10 clicks a day. That's maybe 3650 clicks a year. And you reduced Windows's anoyingness factor by a good margin.

Thank you.
