Recently hooked my dad's desktop PC up to the 42" Panasonic 1080P LCD TV he has and I can't get it to display that resolution for some reason. Hooked up via a VGA cable with a DVI adapter to the video card (Nvidia 7900GS).

anything I missed here?

You did set the resolution in the PC to 1920x1080 right?

With VGA signals and Panasonic LCD's, usually the maximum resolution the VGA connection will accept is 1366x768... At least this was the case through 2010 up to their U22 series. Check your owner's manual to find the max input resolution , but I'm fairly certain it won't be 1920x1080.

If you are using the PC input (ie VGA/D-sub) of the LCD TV, the maximum resolution is most likely be 1366x768 (WXGA).

To circumvent this limitation to display at 1080p, I suggest trying to connect from 7900GS's DVI output (with a DVI-to-HDMI cable) to the HDMI 1 input of the TV.

If this does not work, try other HDMI inputs. And, for each input, rename it to ''PC'', ''PC-DVI'', ''DVI PC''...etc by using the Input Labels feature under Setup in Menu.

xWHATEVER on using dvi to hdmi adapter/cable.
If you are interested/ have a dvi-d male/male cable, I have an apple branded dvi-d>hdmi (female to male) adapter that i can sell.

Think you have your answer already, but I had similar issue and had to use HDMI cable to get 1080. If video card does not have HDMI then HDMI cable with HDMI to DVI converter on the end. The tv had a vga/d-sub input labeled "pc input" but only did 1280X720
