Two 80GB Intel X25-M G2's in RAID 0 - Good Idea?

1437 Views 10 Replies 6 Participants Last post by  ShadowFox19
I'm thinking about going SS with my OS drive and using two 80GB X25-M's in RAID 0, is that a good idea? When I do that, I loose the ability to use the TRIM feature with the drives. Will that significantly effect the long term performance (about a year) of the drive?

Thanks in advance!

Bonus Question:
Will I be able to just clone my current OS drive onto the SSD so I won't have to reinstall everything, or am I going to have to reinstall everything?

id recommend a fresh install even if it lets you "transfer" data, 160gb for OS? how the hell are you even going to use 1? wouldnt your be better off getting 2x30gb?

edit: i know the intels are insanely fast but youd probally be better off with a single one. i dont think the insane price is worth the performance

easier than you may think to use up 80gb

I for one like to install all apps and games on my OS drive so that everything runs fast. Then I keep my media on my storage drive. Doing this will easily fill up 60GB.

What do you mean by "transfer"? I plan on cloning the disk, not just selecting all the contents in my C: drive and copy and pasting.

As for the size, I wish I could do it with just one. My C drive is at 50GB right now, and I haven't even installed my Adobe Production Premium suite yet...and that takes almost 17GB.

Installing Windows takes one gig of space?

Do tell.

Mate, depends on what you want to speed up. If you want games and programs like Photoshop as well, I'd say go for it. But that's just me.

And you may be able to clone it... Not sure. So long as you aren't changing motherboards you should be fine

Yeah, I'm keeping everything else the same, so I'm thinking it should be fine...just wanted a little confirmation

i also meant tht you can actually use a back up drive and essentially system restore to transfer everything. a fresh install is always better
