running a cable half-way through the house would be futile so wireless is the only option. If i get a 'N' router will it i see any boost in signals ?

Get a better Router.

If anything N is just more range, so if the PS3 is barely getting any signal which is why it could be dropping the connection, get an N router.

Much better than to be dealing with feet of ethernet wiring.

most of the other people here seem to have misunderstood you. Yes, you can link two routers together and use the wireless of the good one to connect to the ps3... However, I don't see the point, just use the router with the good wireless and you should be fine?
