Two different brands compatible?

Typically, yes. Unfortunately, you may run into some issues. In addition, it would be wise to run the dual channel kit, like the skills ripjaw that you purchased, only since the motherboard you bought is not compatible with triple channel kits.
EDIT: Did you buy a dual channel kit? (2x 4GB kit?) or a single 8GB Gskill module?

Assuming I read your post correctly, you have two modules, each of them 8GB in density. Is this correct? If so, then the rest is valid, otherwise ignore it.

First off, what are the specs of each 8GB module, secondly what are the first 8 digits of the GSkill S/N and what is the ver# of the Corsair module? This info will be located on the label of each of the modules. The GSkill will start off with something like 1250 (which stands for the production date of year 2012 and the week 50), followed by the 4 numbers that indicate the brand of ICs under the hood. The Corsair will have something like "ver3.11" or "ver5.23", etc. This info is also an indicator of the brand of ICs used by Corsair on your module.
Depending on the chips used you might very well be able to run them together, especially at stock speeds.

Alternatively, return the GSkill and buy the single stick that this guy has for sale. He got it the same way you did, as a combo with a motherboard, so check with him and if yours and his match in specs AND version #, then going with a matched set of sticks would be the best route.

You aren't clear, but I see three possibilities. You have two 8GB sticks (one G.Skill and one Corsair). You have a 8GB kit of G.Skill (2x4GB) and a third 8GB Corsair stick. Or you have two 2x4GB kits, one G.Skill and one Corsair.
If it is the first option, you should be able to run them together, you'll just have to run them at the speed of the slower stick (or risk overclocking the other one) and you may have to set the timings manually. But they are probably close enough to the same settings that it'll work fine right out of the box. There's nothing magical about matched sets, except that they have the same timings and SPD info.
If it is the second, just run the 2x4GB kit and sell the 8GB stick.
If you have two 2x4GB kits (so 4 sticks and 16GB total) then they will work just fine together. But you'd still probably better off just selling one of the kits, since 16GB is overkill for most rigs.
