Two E8400, one stock fan spinning quicker than the other

643 Views 11 Replies 6 Participants Last post by  DannyLaw
Ok recently I bought my brother a E8400 cpu and installed it into the mobo (yesterday) I switched it on and saw that the RPM for the fan was spinning at a whopping 2500RPM. I also have one and that only spins at 900RPM. So what might be causing this problem?

Could it be bad contact or not enough TIM?

EDIT:

I forgot to mention my cpu is running at 37C and his is at 44C both while they are idle.

The cooler isn't properly mounted, the cases airflow is different than yours, that chip just runs hotter than yours.

are they on the same motherboards, also check bios to make sure it is not being controlled by the onboard fan controller. that could be the reason why one is running faster than the other.

Both have the cases open, so it shouldnt affect it that much should it?

Not on the same mobo, mine is on a gigabyte and his is on a asus.

Definitely sounds like his cooler isn't properly mounted.
Thanks for your help tk Fury =)
Each motherboard might have different sensors, so that might be your problem.
reseat the heatsink on the hotter cpu. re-apply TIM as well. check.
OK i reseated the heatsink, does it matter if the motherboard bends a little?
not really. Just dont like have it bending more than like max 10 degrees.
Ok I reseated the Heatsink and cleared CMOS just incase there any settings that could have been overclocking the pc. It runs 4c cooler now but the fan is spinning at 2000RPM, anyway to slow this down or should I just leave it as it is?

Anyone that uses SpeedFan get the reading of an AUX temp? Cause on the ASUS P5K Im getting one that saying its 120C!
