Deciding that adding a smell factor to our television viewing experiences is the way to go for the future, French company Olf-action has designed a device called the SMELLIT, which will provide various aromas to fill your nostrils while you watch your movies and even when you play games!

I wonder if it'll emit chloroform for Hitman and Splinter Cell....

And I bet Lara Croft smells like cinnamon rolls.

EDIT: After a bit of research, I found some of the smells they are preloading into the setup!

I bolded the important ones.

Well considering I mainly play horror games at the moment I would be smelling lots of rotting flesh. Mmmm yeah, this sounds great!

Spy Kids 4 included with the device!
(lol my sis came back from the movie saying they had a card that they told you to scratch open at certain scenes to "smell" what was going on on-screen)

and I don't think Lara Croft smells as well as she looks... if you know what she's been through... even less Kratos...

but I DO wonder what cartoony blood in TF2 MIGHT smell like...

Yeah, except they did this in 1960 in theaters, and in 1981 with Roger Waters' film "Polyester" and it didn't really catch on. It is a neat gimmick that I could see being cool, but not really the wave of the future. Some things are best left unsmelled.

Done right, I suppose that it could be immersive, but I feel like it wouldn't seem accurate. Just because you are in an old building talking to someone drinking bourbon doesn't mean you are going to smell stone, wood and bourbon all at once. Kind of like it would work in directed instances, but not as a device to give the entire film a smell track like a soundtrack.

Make it directional like surround sound.

Now we're going to have smellyophiles as well as audiophiles I guess.

I'm never going to buy something like this at release though, whenever that will be. Who knows what kind of "fuel" they use to do this.

What a well presented stance, complete with evidence.
