ud3p vs dfi board

so ive got a ud3p coming in soon, but my ultimate goal is to get the highest overclock possible on water for my quad. i hear that dfi boards are actually better for overclocking than the ud3p. is this true? should i switch to a dfi board instead?

45nm quads is where UD3 series really shines. I can't see how the UD3 would be any worse with a 65nm quad.

The UD3P wouldn't exactly limit your Q6600 in any way, that's for sure.
But what do you think about the DFI boards? I mean I hear they're solid overclockers. In fact, I hear they're better than any other board for overclocking.

DFI boards are great, you can't go wrong with them, but the Gigabyte UD3P and UD3R are also incredible. From what I've read, the DFI boards may give a slightly higher OC (maybe 5%), but are far harder to overclock on (way more settings, difficult unless you're a very experienced OCer). DFI's customer service is also supposed to sub-par if you have a problem/DOA board, so I would stay with Gigabyte

DFI boards are nice.

If you are overclocking a 775 quad, then a UD3P is the only thing you will need.

They regularly push 500+ FSB through Quads.

I have no experience with DFI but people say that their OC capabilities are great. It's up to you basically. RMA process is quite a big deal if you get a DOA or experience problems though. If they are that close in performance I would go for the company with the best customer service.

I'm probably in the best position to answer the question as I just sold a DFI x48 T2RS in favor of a P45 UD3P. The x48 was great, but it hits its limit at around 450ish FSB (on quads at least) - this was more than enough to get 3.75GHz out of my Q6600, but when I switched to the Q9550 (with an 8.5x instead of 9x multi) the FSB wall on the board started to hold me back.

If you don't intend to go past 450FSB, the better crossfire scaling on a x48 might work out great for you. If you plan to upgrade to a lower multi CPU down the road though, you might as well get a ud3p now

I think the ud3p is the best P45 board you can get for ocing IMHO.

My 3110 (8400) went to 600fsb with primarily auto settings.

My B3 3220 (Q6600) can do about 490fsb with this board (not exactly stable but thats the limit). I can actually do 3.4ghz 24/7 with my quad and its not the best ocer. With a G0 it would be far easier.

Look threw the UD3P thread to get an idea of what people pull on there quads. With 9550 500plus fsb is pretty common. Links in my sig.
