So I had an old levelone router that I had for a while and one day it just stopped working. I got disconnected and started getting unidentified network. When I try to go into settings 192.186.0.1 it doesn't work.
I thought router died and bought a new one TP-Link TL-WR1043ND and it worked great for a while, then I got disconnected and the same thing happened. Unidentified network and I can't go into settings anymore.
If I connect my PC directly into modem it works fine, but router doesn't work at all, not even wireless or anything else.

I was thinking if it could be a faulty modem, but it works fine if I'm plugged directly into it.

EDIT: I reconnected the router and now it works fine again... Could this be another problem? I noticed that when I download a file in chrome (ones that download fast like gpu drivers) my whole internet like dies.
I don't know how to explain, but if I'm on skype or steam, I go download something with chrome I go offline in skype and steam and all the calls etc. just disconnect.
Download works fine though, full speed, just nothing else works.
Also, if I listen to music on youtube and I play league of legends my ping goes way up and game freezes when it switches to next song (video). In firefox the ping jumps a little but I don't notice any lag.

Could this be something with chrome or my PC? Could my PC be crashing the router?

When the router is working, are you able to log into it to modify the settings? There might be an initial setup that you can do to allow proper usage of your router with your modem.

First off, I would start by calling your ISP. Explain to them exactly what is in this post, and what is going wrong. It could be something as simple as them coming out to install a signal booster, or maybe the cable somewhere outside needs to be repaired, or ran again. You could also ask them what routers they recommend with their service, or if they offer the hybrid modem (Modem with router built in).

Definitely sounds like something is going awry with the router, try and do an initial setup of the router again, and see if your problems still occur. You should be able to connect the router directly to your PC, without internet plugged in, and log into it. Also, I would recommend going with a Cisco or D-Link router if you need to exchange.

I have owned several Netgear, TP-Link, and Belkin routers that will all of a sudden "stop working". Hope this helps, post back if you have made any progress.

I updated the router firmware and switched to firefox. It has been working fine since. I don't understand how a browser would crash a modem but searched for "chrome crashing router" and some people have had problems with it, so could this be it?
Like I said this is a new router, old one does the same thing. Could I be getting ping spikes from weak signal from ISP? It's a cable modem and the speed and ping are fine when I test on speedtest.net (10Mbit with 15ms ping).
I don't understand what is going on because I get big ping spikes if I listen to youtube playlists when playing League Of Legends even when plugged into the modem, can they fix this by ISP increasing the signal? I listen to the same playlist on a different location with 6Mbit ADSL connection and I never get ping spikes and lag when it switches songs.

I will keep using firefox for now and see if router crashes again. If it does then it must be something with the modem right? I will report back any changes/errors.

EDIT: Forgot to answer, yes I can normally access the settings now that the router is working and all, just when it crashes I can't do anything, it just loads the page forever.

OK, so I completely forgot to update this. It is actually my ISP problem, they are working on it
