Hey guys,

my current setup:

-Antec Sonata III (1 rear fan) with antec 500W EartWatts Power supply.
-Intel i5 2500k CPU
-INTEL BOXDH67BLB3 B3 Bearup Lake mobo
-2x2 gigabytes of ram (corsair, ddr3 1066mhz)
-Asus Nvidia GTX560Ti (clocked to 900/1050/1.025V instead of 830/1000/1V)
-A simple DVD-RW from Samsung
-1 SATA Hard Drive from WD, 320GB, 7200 RPM Sata2

After looking to a lot of review sites i found out that most 560Ti videocards run much more cooler than mine (like 75° under full load - FurMark) while mine does 83° at stock speeds and 89° on overclocked speeds.

Now this probably has to do with my current case as it is supposed to be quiet and not have a good airflow.

Now I did find the NZXT Phantom Black case which already comes with 6 fans standard, plus a five channel fancontroller. Would this case mean a big improvement to my computer temps in general, and in particular my Asus gtx560 Ti?

And will my current power supply off 500 Watts from Antec still be enough to handle this new case with all it's fans and the fancontroller?

Would you also suggest to buy some more optional fans to install in the case? Or are the 6 standard fans more than enough? Or maybe buy an optional one to cool my videocard even better?

I do have to say it can become up to 30° in my room during the summer.

Next to that, do you advice to replace my stock intel CPU cooler with the Scythe Mugen II revB? It's reasonably priced and should cool my cpu enough to make me overclock it a little. While overclocking my CPU, will my motherboard support this overclocking, or do you need a more advanced motherboard for that? (I'm sorry I am new to CPU overclocking)

I hope you guys can answer to most of my questions,

thanks in advance!

you might get only a few degrees difference with a better case AT MOST.

here's what i recommend
go water cooling for your cpu + gpu
or
just buy an aftermarket cooler for your cpu, this drops the temperatures alot for your cpu and possibly the gpu too

also you can buy a gpu cooler after that to lower your temps for your gpu

here is my experience with an aftermarket cpu cooler only
i had my phenom ii 555 be running at stock speed (3.2 ghz) dual core with my stock cooler
idle temps were in the 40's for my cpu + gpu
load temps for cpu were 50's+
so eventually i bought a cm hyper 212+
idle temps for my cpu was 22+, gpu high 30's
after i saw how cool my temps were i overclocked to 3.9ghz and unlocked to a tri-core and now running 30's+ idle
load no higher than 49 for my cpu

heat builds up, if one component is super hot, it makes the other component hotter

i've read your 2500k overclocks easily to 4.5ghz + with air cooling
but not sure about your board, it seems the standard to overclock the SandyBridge is with a p67 board

and i would recommend you run your whole computer(cpu+gpu+motherboard+everything) at stock speed with your stock fans
once you upgrade you can do all that overclocking + all that cool stuff

but how can you explain the fact that most reviews show temperatures of the same videocard like i have of 75° at full load instead of mine 89° while having the same directCU II cooler that comes with the videocard. It should have to do with the airflow of my case doesn't it? And this is while testing FurMark, so no real CPU heat should go to the videocard as it doesn't get really stressed out while running FurMark (or am I wrong here?)

1 a new case would help with temps especially if in your current case you dont have enough airflow

2 i would think it would do that fine

3 the 6 fans should be enough if they have good CFM but if you want quietness you might want to change them

4 yes you should change the stock cooler it would help with core temps a lot and no you cannot overclock on your H67 board

also just to point out do you have a custom fan profile set if not you should do so it helps with temps and fill out your system info in the CP

So if overclocking my cpu is no option since my motherboard doesn't support it it's also not adviceable to change my cpu cooler? Or is it good to change it anyways?

I also found the Antec One hundred case which is much cheaper than the NZXT. When buying two optional front fans for the one hundred case it also has 4 fans installed which should also provide a good airflow? Will my gpu and my cpu (with standard cooler) run cooler than my current Antec sonata III case?

and no i don't have a custom fan profile, atleast not for my entire system, only sometimes I use custom fan setting with MSI afterburner for my graphic cards, but i found it to make a lot of noise then.

Which program do you advise to set a custom fan profile? And do you maybe have an example of a good custom fan setting?

Here is my advice. 2 days ago I got rid of my antec 900 case for a CM690II advanced. I'm using a pretty hot 460gtx ssc. The CM690IIAD is AMAZING. the ability to mount my PSU upside down, and the much better wire managment droped temps quite a bit!, I'm sporting the CM hyper 212+ as a cooler and in the next week im ordering a silver arrow to replace it. It outperformans any of the "hybrid" cooler's in any review I have seen done recently. the fans that come with the SA cooler are very nice from all the review's. I'm going to swap them out for 3 delta 1011's(120*38mm 99CFM) the noise wont bother me abit with the fan controler
my 2 cents

To keep my GPU temps in check I used EVGA precsion(MSI afterburn works great too). It allows you to set a "Fan speed profile". What i did was run my game for a few hours and watched my temps every few min, and then would adjust my fan speed/temp ratio as needed to get the temps I want, yes it dose it louder as fan speed goes up
but at some point you have to pick one, quiet and not so cool, or slightly louder and cooler. my 2 cents. best of luck

The CM690IIAD does look like a nice cooler and only cost 89euros here in Belgium. I might get that one. Do you advice to buy extra optional fans to install or is the standard fan setup more than enough to make my system more cool than it is now with my Sonata III?

A lot of people say the Scythe mugen II is a great cpu cooler for the i5 CPU's, but I wonder if i'll have to use a backplate to install it? Does your case have to support this (have room for it) or does it fit any case (my current sonata III f.e.)?

The 690 has back plate cut out behind the CPU, it is rather small compared to other cut outs but on my sig rig board its just enough room that I do not have to take out my mobo to take out my back plate.

Keep in mind one of the things CM did to keep costs low on the 690II was the fans they chose to give you with it. You get 3 total fans in the case. 1 120*25mm REAR Exhaust, 1 140*25mm TOP mounted Exhaust fan, 1 140*25mm FRONT Intake fan. The 120MM fan is OK and the 140mm fans suck compaired to my Stock Antec 900 fans. All the other fan spots your on your own to fill. I would Scalp as many fans as you can from you old antec case.

When I was done tearing apart my antec case there where only 2 fans spots left in the CM690II case I did not fill up. Both the 80mm fan spots on the case want you to use a 80*15mm fan...they suck for moving air. 80*25 are nice but to wide unless you get creative. I mounted the 80mm fan for the CPU back plate cooler on the outside of the pannel so I could use a 40 CFM cooler master fan I had. The case is REALY adaptable!! Im going to take a rotary tool to the GPU holder so I can fit another 40CFM fan in it! I'm making a Super HAF case lol

Ill do some google-fu to see about the cooler your after and the case fiting ans such. good luck!

I jsut looked at the sonataIII case and WOW you will be doing GREAT with jsut the stock fan's the CM690IIAD comes with. I would shorten the HDD cage in the CM690II case and add the 120mm antec exhaust fan from it pointed at your GPU and PSU, when you mount your PSU point the fan DOWN, and If your really feeling frisky get any 120mm fan you can with a screen or filter of some sort to add to the side pannel and youll be loads cooler than your old case!! Also if it would help you I can post some pics of my case/fan set up.

Thanks a lot for your help!

I will get myself the CM690II Advanced, but don't you mean to take out my old 120mm antec exhaust fan to install to blow to my CPU and GPU in the new case, or do you really mean the GPU and PSU?

And what do you mean with a 120 mm fan with a screen or filter, what does it do? And add it to the side panel, do you mean as an intake fan to blow air on my GPU?

Pictures of ur current case/fan set-up would be a great fan. I really want to make my computer run a lot cooler.

Now do you also advice me, when i get the new case, to buy the schythe mugen II cpu cooler? I not tend to overclock my cpu since my MOBO (H67) doesn't support it... Or will the better airflow be sufficient enough for a cooler cpu with standard cpu cooler?

After rading all of this, I would look into the CoolerMaster hyper 212+ for your CPU cooler, Its cheap, and works great for stock clocks! the only reason im getting rid of mine is cus I want a nice big OC:p ill get some pics of my rig and show you how the fans can be set up, you can exp. with it alot, not need to go crazy with it if your no going to OC...unless you just wanna have some fun with it

Increased airflow from a side panel fan would absolutely assist with keeping your gpu/chipset/cpu running cooler, and an aftermarket cpu cooler would be a better choice over stock. (only stock intel coolers I've seen that are decent come with the hexcore processors)
You'd be better off with a Hyper 212 as posted above over the Mugen.

You could use one of these on your intake fans to minimize dust intake.

so basically the CM690II advanced has a front inttake fan, one top outtake and one back outtake. Just adding 1 120mm intake fan on the side panel that will blow air to the GPU will result in a perfect, well airflowed, case? It's also possible to hang up 2 120mm intake fans on the side panel, will this be even better?

which extra fan(s) do you advice me to get then?

At 5:00, that's a radiator for water cooling.

I'd recommend Cooler Master R4's for case fans...they push a decent amount of air and come in led and non led versions. (and they're relatively cheap) 2 on the side panel will of great help.

Pushing more air into the case will also assist with keeping dust out as long as your intake fans have filters. (positive air pressure...it'll also push trapped stale air out)
