Somewhat, but I think you would notice a bigger diffrence in upgrading your video card.
how much are the FX?

Probably too expensive. When I switched from a 3500+ to my FX-55, i was not exactly "blown-away" with the difference in games. For example my 3DMark05 score only barely increased as opposed to what happened when I moved from an 5950 Ultra to 6800GT (it more than doubled). Obviously that test is geared more for video than cpu, but the result in gaming would be similar. You would probably run better, but IMO you would get better bang in a new video card.

I know my 3500 performed better than my 3.2 Northy (stock).

Limited at best. I would say maybe 5FPS better. I personally would suggest getting a new motherboard and OC'ing your Prescott. If you get a Thermalright XP-120 and a good Delta Fan, you will see a drastic improvement in your OC. The 6600GT is not a bad card at all. If you are looking for real improvement in gaming, move to a 6800GT. But if you want to improve performance with minimal cash, get a new Mobo and OC that Prescott. If you can hit 3.8GHZ (not too difficult w/ a decent board and memory), then you will see a major increase in your overall performance.
all you have to do is overclock your pressy. but a stock 3500 will beat the prescott easily, so thats why if your getting a intel system, u have to plan to OC it. after all, thts the only point of getting one

I think that is the general consensus. However, I'd go for the GT, BFG if you can.

Yes, get a 6800GT and you will see good improvements in games. But like I said earlier, if you want to see major increases, get the new vid card and OC your Prescott.....
get the 6800gt, and dont get a rosewill. its not a good company, so id stay away from the cheapies unless u like rma's

isnt all video card quality the same chips from ATI and Nvidia?
Nope, the quality of the assembly and heatsink goes a long way. Even if the GPU is the same.
if you want a cheaper 6800gt go with the eVGA... but if you got the extra money go with BFG

PCB boards are not the same either, the little capacitors that provide power to the card are also all different brands...
