Upgrade or build a new rig?

Well, I've built this computer a few years ago. I think now is a good time to upgrade or build a new rig... considering that the prices of more powerful parts are affordable now.

Here's my specs:

AMD Athlon 64 X2 Dual Core Processor 4400+ 2.21 GHz
4 GB RAM (forget which DDR)
ALiveNF5-eSATA2+ Motherboard
NVIDIA GeForce 8500 GT
150GB Hitachi HDD
I also forget which PSU I have.. I think it's around 600 WATT

Does this motherboard support newer processors?
If not, which processor should I get? and which motherboard

I'm just interested in playing the latest games at max settings.

Or should I go for Intel processor + intel motherboard?

What monitor do you have? Budget?

I would suggest this if you want to buy a new computer and want to be futureproof.

Okay, I can continue on build now

CPU: AMD Phenom x4 955
GFX: XFX 5850 or a 5870 (depending on what monitor you have)
HDD: 1x WD Caviar Black WD1001FALS 1 TB and a Kingston SSDNow V-Series 64 GB SSD for your OS and your games.
Motherboard: crosshair iii formula 790fx
RAM: G.Skill PC2-8500 2x2GB
PSU: Corsair HX850W (modular PSU ftw)

That would be a great build for gaming with opportunity to run Crossfire down the road and OC opportunities.

I'm sorry that my answer was delayed

My budget is around $1,000.

My monitor is 19 inch. So, I'm not sure which graphic card is good enough for a 19 inch monitor.

Thanks again!
it depends what games you play. but getting a 5850 or somthing similar will mean your good for a long time. but thats half your budget lol. a gtx 260 will b ok for your monitor size. i run an 8800 gtx and its still hangin on pretty nicely.

No, a 5850 on newegg.com is 309$. Leaving more than enough $$ for the rest.
