Hey all...I've been trying to justify buying a final Socket 754 CPU, and of course, I would need new RAM to compliment it

So, would really be worth the money to trade my Sempy 3100+ (runs pro at 2.5Ghz and 32c), for a A64 3700+ ClawHammer w/ 1 MB cache?

Here is the links for the CPU and RAM im thinking about...anyone think of anything better for that price range? If I do upgrade, am I going to notice signifigant performance increases? Should I just keep my current CPU and just start saving my money till '07 and DX10?

Well depending on if your MOBO supports the processor. other wise yes it would be worth it, your gonna get a higher overclock.

If you got to got to have better preformance get the 3700 but I save up money for a little later like 4-6 months and get and X2 on socket 939 or even go with and FX series if you can afford it.

Is your main focus gaming? If so, you are kind of at a crossroad. if you get a 3700+, they aren't very overclock friendly, most don't get to 2.8 stabilily w/o bumping the vcore to 1.65+. You'll see a difference in gaming, but the biggest difference you'll get would be from a new graphics card, but then, your current processor will mostly likely become a bottleneck towards gaming. But i would say the very next thing you buy should be a power supply. That'll be paramount for towards high and stable cpu OCing, getting a more powerful graphics card, or anything else to improve your system.
