Upgrade to ddr3 or not?

I was thinking about upgrading to a quadcore until I found out that my cpu has a stable 4th core. Now I'm debating on upgrading to ddr3 along with a new mobo. Is it worth it, or might it be a waste of money?

I'm in the same predicament as you. I got the same mobo too... and ram xD If its DDR2 800 by gSkill but I got 8gb of it.

I am so torn whether or not to upgrade. Part of me says "No, 8gb DDR2 is enough for anything". The other part says "DDR3 is as cheap as DDR2 and you will need to upgrade in the future anyway, buy the DFI mATX Board and 4gb of RAM, the other 4 later".

Any advice would be great.
Will you see any performance iuncrease apart from in memory benchmarks - No

In gaming you will see next to no performance increase if any. I would only make the change to future proof as the rigs you guys have are more than up to the job for gaming at the moment.

I'm pretty sure that the next time I upgrade my cpu, I'll be getting a new mobo along with it. It isn't certain that I will stay with AMD too. So, I guess it would be a waste of money to upgrade. Thanks for your thoughts.

Thanks Riskitall. I was looking for the future proof part, however I think my 8gb will last me quite some time.

8gb of memory is pretty overkill for gaming any-who right?

Perhaps I should just save the money for a new mobo and the AMD 6 core processors when they come out.

That's what I'm thinking too.
Also, it's not the amount of ram, but rather the speed that you should care about when upgrading to DDR3. Since there's not much of a performance upgrade, than it's not worth it.
