Upgrading Socket 775 Mobo to OC an E5200 (Need help)

I'm planning on getting a new motherboard to replace my Intel DG31PR, so I can try my first CPU overclock. (The latest BIOS for this board doesn't have any voltage or clock options).

It's really hard to find a good board that suits my build though;
- Intel E5200 (LGA775)
- x2 - 2gb dual channel DDR2 (800mhz)
- 9800gt (PCI-E x16)

(Will add info if needed)

I've pretty much nailed it down to two boards, those being the EVGA 730i and 750i.
(Links if you need them; 730i 750i)

If you'll notice, they both have an 8-pin +12v motherboard power connector, and that's the problem I was talking about; my current PSU only has a 4-pin +12v cable. Although, I've heard that sometimes you can plug a 4-pin cable into an 8-pin, but I'm not sure as to:
1) Whether it's safe or not with these boards.
2) What drawbacks it has on performance and stability if it even works (OC'ing or not).
3) Whether or not using an adapter instead of getting the properly cabled PSU would be a good idea.

If anyone can clear that up it would be awesome, cause there's not much info on the subject anywhere and I need to know if I should be buying a new power supply or not. To add to all that, I'm wondering if anyone has any experience with overclocking on these boards, and which one (if either) would better suit my goals without any issues (I'm trying to go from 2500mhz anywhere up to 3200).

If there's anything else you guys need to know ask away, and if you have another board to suggest feel free, just nothing too expensive ($150+). I've already looked around quite a bit though and those seem like the best options.

This is also my first post here, so I hope I have a nice stay in what seems to be a good community.

This would be cheaper, and better at OCing than either of the boards you linked.

I am assuming you don't need to SLi, since you didn't mention it. In my opinion, those Nvidia boards are pretty weak compared to a P45 board.

Also, you can run a 4pin with those boards just fine. Some say the extra connector helps with quads, but for your dual you will be fine.

Yea that's looking good man, and no, I'm not running an SLi setup. Got my 1tb HDD with a few partitions and it does me well enough.

Another thing I've been wondering is if I should be looking into getting a new heatsink, on a suicide test at 2500mhz I was running a peak of 65c for the last 5 minutes of a 15 minute test with the stock intel cooler.

Yes, you really should think about picking up a decent cooler for your chip. Overclocking on a stock cooler is never a good idea.

This is a great one for the price. This will work ok with that chip, but is a bit louder and not as effective.

If you want to spend more on something that will last you for your next CPU upgrade, go with a Megahalem.

Yea I figured it wouldn't perform well enough. Alright thanks, it looks like I'm set then.
