My dad is getting rid of his Athlon 64 x2 4800+ and he's thinking about upgrading to a Phenom. He just bought this mobo: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16813128376

and he's thinking about getting this cpu: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16819103291

What do you guys think is this gonna be a good update or should he get something better since he's already upgrading. He's gonna use it mostly for video and photo editing.

It costs $149.99 is there something better at a little higher price or is this a good bang for my buck

If it's not for gaming, then that Phenom will be great.
I read around the forum and I think I'm gonna pull the trigger
Well, if its not too late:

Photo and video editing will be way faster with a phenom 2. It is definitely worth the extra money to get this:

The cache and clock will really benefit video editing.
Why not just get a Phenom II 720BE for the same price (more cache, less heat, 45nm, more overclock)? http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16819103649
According to iXBT Labs, the 720 outperforms the X4 9850 across the board, and its not even overclocked.
According to gigabyte your board is "AM3 Ready." So good luck on your purchase.

yeah the 720be is a better buy vs the 9950.

both have unlocked multipliers, but the 9950 requires work to get to 3.0ghz, while the 720be will do 3.4 with out even blinking an eye.
