well today i got everything for my new pc,and all went fine, till i plugged it in and it ran fine, just didn't find my sata so i changed it from sata1 to sata3 and then plug it back in,only it was using a multi plug adapater and i heard sissing from it it then the power cut, change the lead and then restart and it load in to bios fine, but when i tried to load up (install window xp) all i could see with pink/blue dot'y lines going across the screen (in place of the blue screen),so basicly i need to know if it is just my gpu (6800 pci-x point of view) that is fried or if it something otehr than that..

(put it here as it's a querre whether or not its the gpu at fault, please move if you think it belongs in different section, thanks )

This sounds odd. Im not sure if its the GPU but I'm wondering why it shut off? Pinky dots...sounds like a system problem or artifacts, but with no OC that shouldn't happen. Hope for a more experienced user, im new. Other sys specs might help more experienced people out aswell.

Do you have (unused) onboard video or another video card you can try? That's the quickest way to tell if it's the video card or not.

Note: The GPU is just the chip on the video card. It's like calling the entire computer a CPU. It's a common mistake...

Well, when you hooked up your SATA hd, you only used 2 cables right? The SATA cable, and one of the power cables right?

I was reading on mvktech.net a few days ago about a guy that had this kind of problem whan using his new graphics card on his LCD. Someone said it can be an incompatibility issue between the dvi exit and the monitor. Can't you try with another graphic card, just to see if it's something wrong with it?

i tried with an x300 early today,as it wouldn't boot up off the windows disc, didn't do a thing...the system just won't let me install windows now..so out of stupidy i thought i'd check it all and reinstall it all,but i took the battery out (well i knocked it out) and then once all was reinstall turned it on and nothing on the screen at all, didn't even load into the bios(or a beep)..i'm simply confused now,if it wasn't for the dodgey adapator the system would of been fine....so i'm going to have to fook out for a pc shop to check it out as i can't even load the bios now...

don't spose anyone would care to give me the worse case Scenario of what i could have bust? cheers..
basicly want to know if the whole system is fooked or just motherboard or graphics card..

Edit do you think it's possible i wiped the bios completey?,was going try updating the bios earlier but thought i can't cause i get no visual display

Ahh the good ol' PII syndrom....

first, reseat your video card.

Secoend,ReFlash BIOS, hit teh dip switch labled(Clearcmos) insted of removing the battery.

If that dont work, sorry to say, probobly the CPU.

As some know, when a CPU goes, it gives no error codes, so it is hard to find. try a new CPU.

If you have any other spare parts like PSU's RAM, try those, but i am 50% shure it is the CPU.
