URGENT: Removing Xigmatek Backplate

1952 Views 10 Replies 7 Participants Last post by  Papa.Smurf
Hello,

I am RMA'ing my motherboard and need to remove everything off of it. I had installed a xigmatek backplate for my S1283. As you know, the backplate has some adhesive that holds it to the back along with some screws. I can't pry the plate off without exerting force which I think would damage the motherboard. How should I go about removing the backplate in a safe way?

Thank you!

Just do it slowly, wriggle it back and forth. Twist it. It takes some time but it will come off. Chances are that the adhesive pad will stick to the motherboard.
Put the mobo in the freezer for a few hours then pop it off. You could use alcohol to remove the adhesive too.
Argh, I keep wiggling it and stuff but I'm flexing the mobo and get scared when i hear something crackle. I don't want to break it.
Alright, I got it off, there's a big chunk of adhesive still on the board.

I hope I did not damage the board with all the man handling I did.

I doubt it, the board can flex quite a bit without being damaged.

Mine was fine, let me tell you I flexed it alot.
Next time use some fishing line. Works like a charm.....
I refrained from using the adhesive for this reason.
