USB headset question

291 Views 3 Replies 3 Participants Last post by  JonnyMark
My current headset is a 5.1 headset with analog plugs. (http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...-007-_-Product) That plugs directly into the sound card.

But the headset I am about to buy is a USB headset (http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...-281-_-Product) Will I be able to take full advantage of a USB headset even if its not plugged into the sound card?

USB headsets usually have a lower sound quality than those powered directly from your soundcard, especially with a sound card like yours (the X-Fi)
Answer to my own question.

Since I bought the G35 and returned it as soon as I plugged it in and found out this.

USB headsets have a built in sound card, a crappy one usually. So if you have a really good sound card you should avoid USB headsets and only buy analog headset so you take full advantage of your sound card, but if you have an on board sound card you can buy a USB headset since both of them are pretty bad compared to PCI/PCI-E sound cards with 24-bit and all the extras.
