USB Headset

Hello
i had been using the normal Fatal1ty Gaming Set with normal mini jacks up until recently when they broke and someone gave me a new pair as a gift but they are USB instead and the Mic doesnt pick up anything i say and its turned on everywhere. and i cant change from Entertainment mode to Gaming mode once i pick the USB headset in the audio console.. over half of my options disappear once i choose the USB headset as my "Device". it only picks up something if i blow hard into the mic and all i get is a low scratch noise.
do i need an adapter ? Audio works fine, just the mic not picking anything up.

It's a X-Fi Fatality Edition soundcard.
New pair is the HS-1000 USB Fatality Headset
The old pair was HS-1200 i believe(not entirely sure as i dont have the box anymore but its the same pair just with mini jacks instead of USB)

Thanks

the soundcard software is useless with a usb headset. that headset has its own software that needs to be installed. it happens to be x-fi software that is similar-but not identical-to the sound card software. there might be conflicts
I did install the software that came along with headset
USB headsets are crap. anyway try to install the latest software

I have a SupremeFX IIsound card. I didn't install the software, just plugged the usb headset in.

That's one of the most helpful, insightful suggestions I've ever seen.

Anyways, do indeed install the latest software for the headset, and also make sure that your input device is the headset, and not the sound card in your audio control panel.

Well problem is that the mic doesn't pick up any sound unless its a very loud thing such as blowing directly into the mic. and when i go Start>Programs>Creative>Creative USB Headset(The Software i Installed)>Creative Audio Console> and switch it to Creative USB Headset the tab with Modes is gone and the microphone tab is nowhere to be seen.

And it is my input device. and i have the latest software.
Have you tried forcing any attenuation settings? Such as 20dB boost, if it exists in this case.
The advanced options are gone when i pick my USB Headset as my sound device so i cant put on boost
One thing that I hated about the software is you always had to turn up the mike in the control panel. And every time you reboot you had to adjust it again.
