i have a USB to Serial Dongle. it will show up as lets say COMM 4. when i open putty to connect via serial the COMM port is removed. any ideas why this is happening?

device continues to be seen in Device manager, if i scan for new hardware again it will assign it COMM port and removes COMM again if i try connecting to device via the dongle.

Just because you can adapt doesn't mean it will work in all applications.

I mean, like, it's pretty easy to adapt home gas piping to water piping. But you can't cook with water nor wash dishes with fire!

There's a little circuit board in the thingey in the cable. It's supposed to do the conversion. Whether it works or not depends on the drivers/software you're using.
