My sister in law was running a ten meter Ethernet cable across the floor, and her daughter tripped over it and ripped the connection right off the card, out the back of the pc.

She has WiFi router , so I suggested she get a USB pen drive type.
I have no idea on WiFi
are the USB type ok, or is she better off with a fixed card.
this is what I´m looking at.

Any advice appreciated.

either one is fine. I would pick the usb if you have alot of pc's in the house... other than that a pci wireless card would do a great job.

Put a rug on top of the Ethernet cable. This usually gets rid of daughter tripping over cable problems.
Or you can run the network cable along the walls and corner all the way around the room. A single ethernet cable can run a maximum length of 100 meters between device & switch (hub).

Pick up some cable-management nails from Home Depot and you can keep the cable fixed to the corner of the floor/wall junction.

Yes, but it looks tacky when you see a cable coming from both ends out of the rug.

When you buy a USB wifi card pay close attention to the power mW range and supported encryption's. The higher mW the better, stay away from anything under 50mW. And make sure the USB device supports at least WPA2 TKIP, if it supports WPA2 AES consider it a bonus..

Happy hunting..

Yes, but the RJ-45 connector being ripped out of the motherboard looks even tackier. Not to mention is much less functional.
