I am upgrading from an e4400 (2.0ghz) to an e8400 (3.0 ghz).

I bought the e8400 used with a new q9550 heatsink which didnt fit my motherboard for some reason.

Can I use the same heatsink / fan I used to use on my old e4400 with the new 8400 new cpu? it is one of those tall heatsinks. it seemed like I could just clean of the old paste and apply a new coat.

Please keep in mind that I am not planning to overclock.

This is probably the first time I upgrade a machine like this, can someone tell me the steps involved besides applying the thermal paste.

Thanks

Yes, but with that said I would use a program like Core Temp to check your old processors heat just to make sure your cooler can handle the added load of the new processor.
