I'm planning to replace my 2 TB WD Blue drives with 3 TB WD Red but I'm concerned about using it as a standalone drive.

As k understand it the Western Digital Red has TLER / Time Limited Error Recovery which is set to 7 seconds so it won't be dropped by certain RAID arrays. That means it's going I disabled the deep Recovery normal drives do which takes up to 2 minutes it attempting before giving up on a bad sector.

But I'm not using it in RAID, I'll only be using it as a standalone 24/7 storage drive. I'm using it for my main rig to store files and I never turn that off and leave it idle while I'm away. Should I just keep to the Blue or go for the Red? Primary concern is the possibility of data loss when the drive gives up too easily recovering a bad sector.

If you're not planning on having it in a RAID set up just get the blue! :)

I'm never planning to put the files on it and the drive into a RAID.
