I would have liked to see more ROPs at that price point, but it's w/e. I'd rather have a GTX460 768MB in the <$150 segment, personally

The reason its $150 its because its crushes the GTX550 Ti which is $130.

I think that Anand sums it up quite well in that its like the 5830, which if they dropped the price $20 it would have been an excellent option. As it is, it's still a good card, but yeah, the 460 is pretty much at the same performance level and a bit above for the same price.

Depends on what your looking for I guess.

I've always hated the HD5830, to be honest
The HD4830 on the other hand, I liked
ATI likes to demolish the number of ROPs in their slashed cards

In terms of competing with the GTX550 Ti, it does well there, but that card is priced out of its league -_- Hopefully both the HD6790 and GTX550 Ti will fall to more competitive levels.

i was hoping to see it a little further ahead of the 5770 then it is, so i could have an excuse to buy one. guess i'll just go with some 68xx card.

AMD's Radeon HD 6970 1 GB can be found online for around $150.

Fail.

Guru3d hints that this could be unlocked to a full HD 6870, due to identical reference PCB's.

Looks like the perfect gtx 550 ti killer.

Very glad to see they only have one pci-e connector, should be an excellent bang for the buck card.

AMD took what could've been an amazing card and completely gimped it in several ways. First, it should have been priced at $130. Second, I did not expect it to lose this many ROPs. With losing so many of them, performance had gone down more than what it should've. It ended up slotting exactly between the 5770 and 6850, but that's not enough to make it reign. It needed to be much closer in performance to the Radeon HD 6850, and it's too close in pricing to it.

AMD, I am disappoint.

This card is 15-20% slower than a 6850 yet requires an extra 6-pin PCI-E, is larger, consumes more power, and is only $20 less. If I'm not mistaken, in our world of technology this is considered a failure.

(Please completely disregard previously said derogatory statement if the 6790 does in fact unlock to a full 6870.)
