Ever wonder how they would be able to computer the movements and collisions of Saturn's rings? Me neither, until I realized that they actually are going to do this and now it sounds awesome.
Quote:
A new supercomputer developed at this university will allow researchers to analyze everything from combustion to particles in the rings of Saturn.
After nearly 10 years of planning and two years of construction, university officials introduced the $4.2 million Deepthought2 supercomputer and the new 9000-square-foot Cyberinfrastructure Center that houses it to a crowd of several dozen researchers, faculty and consultants yesterday.
My question is, which laptops. If they are Acers then you might be able to load a JPEG of Saturn, MAYBE. But jokes aside, I found this interesting. But when you think about it, why did they use laptops as the comparison? That's like saying I can perform 10,000,000 as many calculations as a Playstation 1. What they should have compared them to is my SUPER BEAST GAMING GRAPHICS HUMPER PC MASTER RACE RIG!

Here are the links.

"With the computational power of 10,000 laptops, Deepthroat2 can run tests and analyze data too large for normal computers to handle."

Surely I can't be the only one that read it like this...

There are way too many innuendos and questionable wordings in that article.

Something that is going into my signature that is what.

Still, why not at least use the PS4 as a comparison? 10,000 laptops can mean a bunch of 300 mhz PII CPUs or a multisocket server wedged into a laptop shaped case.
