[VCZ] Are these the pictures of Hawaii-powered Radeon Card?

A member of Chiphell community, known to be a source of many leaks (which are not necessarily always right) posted a picture of the Hawaii-powered engineering sample. To be specific, there's a picture of the box along with some pictures of the PCB diagrams.

The box shows a tidal wave. I did my best to find the original picture and find any reference to the Hawaii. I actually did find it, but there's no reference to the island. The picture is available under the names like 'blue wave' or 'ocean wave'.

I do not think this is anyway important, but sometimes manufacturers give us a hints, this could be a one of such. Of course I encourage you to look for them as well.

It was said that the new Radeon based on Hawaii GPU would be equipped with 6+1 phase design, which is most likely related to the higher TDP. The leaker also made some reference to the GeForce GTX 780, but since we are talking about the picture of the text, it's almost impossible to recognize the letters and then translate them.

Of course if you are Chinese and happen to read this post, make sure to post your translation in the comments.

Volcanic Islands are mostly refreshed chips?

According to VR-Zone the rumors about mysterious codenames posted by HWINFO aren't actually real (surprise?!). It appears that only Hawaii and of course Bonaire GPUs would be based on GCN 1.1 architecture. The rest, which includes Curacao and Oland, is based on refreshed chips.

Additionally AMD could release a new Tahiti XTL processor, which would be the fourth in the family next to Pro, XT and LE models. Bonaire would be released in to versions: Bonaire XTX and Pro, while the Oland in XT and Pro.

It is believed that more information about Hawaii GPU would be released in late September, somewhere around 23rd-25th.
Possible Performance of the AMD Volcanic Islands' Hawaii GPU

AMD Radeon R9 D970 Specifications
Quote:
25% better than HD 7970 GHZ Edition

While the naming of the new series is not verified, this is most likely the best possible name for the new card. My information about the D970 comes from a very good source, however it's always good to take them with a grain of salt.

It is believed that the Hawaii GPU would be equipped with 2560 Stream Processors along with 40 ROPs. The clocks would be the same as on Radeon HD 7970 GHz Edition with the same memory capacity and interface. In fact AMD likes round numbers, so if they are to increase the clocks that would be by 25/50 MHz steps.

I was told that the new Radeon would be 20-30% faster than the current flagship. The score you can see above says exactly the opposite, but you probably shouldn't believe that the new Radeon would be more than 50% faster than the current model. After looking at the specs I received I noticed that we are looking at almost perfect 25% scaling.

Is it yet too early to talk about the details. Treat these specs as a prediction, not a leak.

Update:
Does the new Radeon include with a bundled Battlefiled 4? We could just be looking at the first proof, or a very good fake.

Additionally we have ruler situated right next to the box, it could be suggesting that the new card is 3 cm longer than HD 7970. Dual fan cooler?

25% better than HD 7970 GHZ Edition and hopefully the price is good

saved all my money and all the pennys for a new GPU

Assuming that it's Firestrike Extreme, that score is 40-50% higher than a stock HD 7970 GHz. That's an awfully large jump in one generation, assuming this is the 7970 equivalent and that it'll launch at a similar price point. It's only slightly faster than the Titan though so it is technically possible.
I don't think so, this is going to be a refresh, would believe it on 20nm though...

Lol at the author saying a picture of a tidal wave. The reference to Hawaii is the wave itself which is the most well-known left in the world found on Oahu's north shore. I just hope these cards come out in October or earlier, can't wait.

Realistic.
Come on 25% better for $550 launch price!!!!!

That would be a heck of a slap to Nvidia and Titan's face.
I waited out the 7xxx/6xx and 7xx

PLEASE LIVE UP TO THIS i'm aching for a new PC, this'll do haha.

I as well, I was going to rebuild around Titan, but it didn't really live up to what it could have been. At least not at the given price point, if this new card lives up to the 25% gain and comes in at $550 to $600 (we can dream), then a rebuild shall happen!
This card will probably be better value than a GTX 780, not only is it likely to perform better (but I suspect Nvidia is witholding performance just in case) as it will most probably have all of its compute performance available compared to the compute gimped GTX 780.

I usually prefer Nvidia, but I have to say the Kepler series was not very inspired. From this series I would only consider the GTX 650 for a Media Center / OEM system, a GTX 650 Ti, which is the most efficient card when it comes to price / performance / power consumption, ideal for gaming at 720p on a Media Center, and the GTX 760 for 1080p gaming. At the higher end Nvidia is just milking the market because they have no competition for the moment, so the prices are not what they should be, especially the GTX 780, which needs to come down to Core i7-3930K prices.

AMD was not very inspired either at the start, but they have been making progress with their drivers ever since, unleashing the full potential of their admittedly more balanced (gaming / compute) cards.

Thanks for collecting both the trash photos in one post so we know where they are.

1. That - very likely troll - photo of a PCB has the chiphell forum logo on it. i.e. not only it looks ridiculous in the first place, it's even likely a blatant attempt to promote their own site, which is apparently the only "source" of it that nobody confirmed.

2. Need I describe the second photo? It's a blurry photo of a benchmark taken with a mobile phone. Really? Is that person so inclined to be involved with high end technology that can't even take a common screenshot? Blatant troll is obvious.

Get over it. The only confirmation by AMD (according to the Journalists at least) is that there will be an announcement on Volcanic Islands on September 25th. No specs no release date no nothing yet.

And stop falling so easily for trolls. This is supposed to be a domain with knowledgeable people. Don't fall for obvious trolls that belong in 4chan.

Look at what section its in. Its fine. If youre going to get your panties in a bunch go look at the rumors and editorials about nvidia and intel that get posted in the news section and the mods dont move despite being brought up in the conversation and flagged.

Some time back didn't AMD say something to the effect that BF4 would have the next AMD GPU series released at the same time?

You forgot to mention Backdoor, the right to Pipe. On a clean north northwest winter swell with variable off shore winds and A-frame breaking sets Backdoor is sick! On topic, I hope these cards come out late October early November, it would be fitting since that's when the winter season swells usually start and Pipe goes off.

It's hardly unheard of. The GTX 680 was around 40% faster then the GTX 580. Even the GTX 780 still managed about an 30-35% increase over the GTX 680 and of course there is always the grand daddy of all jumps the 8800 GTX was more then twice the speed of the 7950 GT.

Considering the radeons are a bit late to the table this is the kind a performance we ought to demand (along with affordable prices

That was already done, you can now own a HD 7990 for what it costs for a GTX 780. Which slaps around both the GTX 780 and the TITAN.
Not looking forward to the price, I bet they'll price it in line with the 780. I'm not prepared to shell out a the price of a used car on a gpu anytime soon, so it looks like I'm out. 25% is better than nothing, but certainly better not be priced 25% more.
