Very strange hardwire issue, 650i, need input

hi all, I was accesing the net on my rig with a usb wifi adapter. The adapter is shot and im forced to hardwire for the moment however, im having a terrible time getting online via hardwire.

Chipset is 650i sli ethernet adapter is atheros running windows 7 64 (now xp32 for troubleshooting purposes) with all drivers propely installed. Device manager report the device is working properly. Now at first i figured it was driver compatibility issues with 64bit os, However after installing xp 32 bit im having the same issues. Strange part is, Ive also tried 2 different pci ethernet adapters with proper drivers to no avail.

Windows again reports all 3 adapters are working properly and acknowledges when the ethernet cable is plugged in but will try to acquire ip for about a minute and then report limited connectivity with no network access.

I'm absolutely stumped as all 3 adapters failed to work, i suspected ip conflict and assigned a static ip and manually defined the gateway and mac address again, to no avail. Also, when i try to repair the connection in xp, it fails at the first step renewing ip address.

again all drivers are propely installed and devices are said to be working correctly. Im open to absolutely any advice anyone has to offer and appreciate any input!

Are you positive you are configuring your host to the appropriate subnet associated to your routers internal facing lan? DHCP is enabled on your router?

That's the first step.
Thanks for the reply. dhcp is enabled and i thought maybe an ip conflict with another machine (2 other pc's use the router) so i assigned several different static ip's using the same default gateway and subnet settings (which work with all other pc's on the network) with no luck.

I also restored my router to factory settings, Still no luck i turned off all firewalls in router config page and windows as well as connecting directly from the modem wiht no router, still all the same issues.

I must apologize for my lack of networking knowledge ill continue studying on the net while i continue to troubleshoot

I suggest you go hunt out a cheap PCI network card, and see if that fixes the issue. Nvidia's chipsets have never been the best, and it may well be an fault in the onboard adapter. Even a basic 10/100 card will do the job to troubleshoot the issue.
Scrap that, reading the OP for the win!

You have 3 possible problems there, cables, router and motherboard. Nvidia chipsets have never been the best, and it's possible that's going.
Reset the router to factory default settings, and then try it.
Have you used the same ethernet cable on each NIC? If so, find another one to try, or, even better, move the base unit to where there's a known working machine plugged in (if any) and try it on that cable.
Here are some details from my router config page if it may help

I have ruled out cables and router, The modem and router were both bought in feb 2011 and work fine with all other pc's in the home. I'm suspecting mb issues because i clearly recall using hardwire on the board in the past with xp.

However both pci adapters have the same result (pci cards tested on different pc both worked) so i dont believe it to be the the board. Also the 2 usb ports directly under the ethernet port work.

I must have wronged the pc gods in another life
im stumped

Try pinging your loopback 127.0.0.1 and to make sure the TCP/IP stack is functioning correctly.

When you statically configure your NIC what happens when you try and ping your local default gateway? Can you ping outer devices in your home?

Are you getting a 169.x.x.x IP address when you use set your NIC to use DHCP?
I had a 680i Mobo who's ethernet capabilities failed. It's entirely possible that part of the mobo is shot.
