I just bought this awesome new 22 in. monitor and I need to buy a new video card to game with it. The monitor's resolution is 1680x1050, the card I have right now is a x1600pro.

I can only spend about $130
Here's what I have my eye on:

Radeon X1950PRO:

GeForce 8600GT:

GeForce 7900GS:
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16814130056 OR

I really just want to play WoW and Source games on max settings at a playable frame rate on the new monitor. What would be the best buy?

spend like $40 more for the X1950XT and oc the sucker to XTX speeds. but thats my opinion...thats if the egg is still doing that MIR still for like $50 or so
nvm its $30 after shipping and all its like $150 I think its worth it since you would be able to definitely push max on those games

hurry tho rebate ends soon i think
The x1950 pro and 7900GS are a toss up. Most of the time when overclocked to their maximum potential the 7900GS will come out on top but it so close that it barely matters. The 8600GT gets beaten by both cards in every benchmark I have seen and its DX10 performance is completely abysmal so its pretty much out of the running. Out of the first two go with whatever you can find cheapest.
For source games I probably would go with the x1950pro. It also should do just fine with wow.
Get the XT if you can, it's only a little more, but hell, it's a pwn card.

I would go for the X1950XT or 7900GTO (on eBay). You can flash the GTO to run at GTX Speeds. Or, you can overclock the XT to XTX speeds.

The 7900GS. I don't like ATI and especially Sapphire; their cards give problems. Do you really need DX10? So definitely the 7600GS in my book.

Wow, I didn't know they were that cheap now. My god.
Go with the 7900GS.. I can play Source games maxed out at 1280x1024 with no problems.

hehe I'm just playing. I'm trying to get used to these smilies. I've never used them much before. Proof comes in handy in ANY situation too.

just scanning through here, looks like 1950pro doesnt take as big of hit on fps when it comes to higher res/aa/af settings

What about a 7950gt OC (bfg) it's $139 after $40 rebate from TigerDirect

It's only 256mb ram though and I reckon at those res you might be better off finding a 512mb card.
I'm having a tough time deciding between the 7900GS and x1950PRO too. The 8600 is just a waste of $

Well between the 79 and x19PRO, my problems are as follows:

The PRO is supposed to be a better card and all, support the whole HDR+AA thing, but i'm not too sure about sapphire.

I WANT the 7900GS simply because i can get an eVGA, and i LOVE eVGA. The 79 is also slightly cheaper... But then the 19 has better performance...

heh heh... decisions, decisions...

but I've read the 79xx cards are one of the best overclocking GPUs. In fact it can be faster than the x1950 pros. The only thing for me would be AA+HDR running at the same time.

I play in 1680x1050 on CS:S with a 7600GT with max detail except FSAA and HDR and I always get above 60fps. Same goes for WoW... it only drops in places like Shattrath so you won't need anything better than a 7600GT to get good fps in 1680x1050 resolution.
