Vista or Windows 7?

534 Views 11 Replies 11 Participants Last post by  NakedSuperhero
Which OS would be better for my setup, Vista 64bit or 7 64bit?

Not sure how 7 is in terms of reliability and drivers. So any input appreciated as building this sometime this week.

Cheers.

Windows 7 has issues with some soundcards and 5.1 setups. I have only found a handful of apps that won't work with Windows 7 and the majority of them won't work with Vista either.

W7 has better features and is more robust. Windows 7 is Vista done right.
i double booted, so i can have both.

to answer your question the drivers seem fine but games such as fallout 3 keep on crashing

Windows 7 won't be out for a little while longer so I would just get Vista if you had to right now. And most of the Vista 64bit drivers work with Windows 7 as far as I know right now.

This is unless you are fine running the Windows 7 betas until it actually releases. But like Legend said it's Vista done right. If you were waiting Windows 7 hands down.
ummmm i trip booted lol in my opinion... use vista for main os 7 is still unreliable as heck... and keep xp in your back pocket if ya can

PS my opinion w7 is vista sp 2

Most of OCN would disagree with you on that, and many of us have it as our main OS's.

Only BSOD i've had was on my laptop, and due to Intel's POS GMA945 drivers. They went into a crash/recover loop which ended in a BSOD.

I dunno, I have had absolutely 0 problems with my Win7 set up. Just my old school Audigy ZS2 was the only driver that Win 7 did not load automatically. Everything else was like clock work, and i have not had a single crash, or even one single issue. Everything is running along skippady doo, even Fallout 3, been playing it for 20+ hours on Win 7 not one single crash, and it used to crash on my XP install left and right. This is all on my sig rig.

I have Vista on my secondary rig, right next to my sig rig. So I will be doing a side by side comparison pretty soon.

Secondary rig: x2 4800+ @ 2.8ghz, 4gigs of ram, on ASUS M3A-H/HDMI, with a HD3850.

Thats why I ask, currently have Win7 on my laptop you see and have no end of problems, but I attribute that perhaps to the beta I am running.

Yeah, Fallout 3 does that here too with win7, randomly. Its a great upcoming OS but a beta can not be a compared to an already established OS. Its nice to play around with while waiting for the official release.
