Whenever i try to install vista, It takes literally a day and a half to expand the files once you get past the partitioning stage in the setup. any ideas?

Dunno if your talking bout your sig rig but when installing an OS I've always found it best to set everything in the Bios to stock as in the CPU, mem, etc.. And sometimes using only 1 stick of ram helps, but since you only have 2 GB that might be ok.. I know 4GB has issues with some os's during install.

It usually should take no longer than 45 minutes to install a OS
Maybe there's something wrong with your CD or optical drive, i'd check the CD/DVD first.
You could try using a Flash drive to install from there are guides all over the net to do that. Vista will need a 4GB flash drive and usually from a flash drive it cuts the install time in half.

Sounds like it's time to scan your hard drives.

I reset the Bios before I install a OS. Always. My DVD drive isnt the case. It installs XP like a champ.

I'd say its your DVD than, I've had bad "copies of my original" dvd that were bad and took forever, not as long as a day but a couple hours. And if you can install XP fine to the same drive than yeah get another copy of the dvd.
