Ok I've asked for advice and I'm still no more closer to making a choice some say one while other say another. So thought a poll will setlle it, mainly for gaming, multi-tasking (x-fire, music, fraps, msn) etc.... I've updated my bios for now and will stick with my motherboard until the near future when the new bulldozer chips are out.

I have about £120 to spend, but the lower the better as theres a few other bits I wouldn't mind and I'm on a tight budget. So still open to suggestions and from scan, ebuyer if possible. Also a HSF as well please, looking for a small increase in game performance but also in general windows use.

Many Thanks all those guru's out there!

The Phenom X2 550BE would be a good choice. But there's the Phenom II 555BE coming around the corner. But it seems you like to use a lot of application and a quad-core would be more ideal. I see you can't go wrong with any of them.
the x3 435 seems to be a really sweet proc for its price. I voted for that as it performs better than a dual, and can possibly unlock to a quad, and if it fails then you are better off with the extra core versus the dual core. Or, you could get a 620, but that is kind of a dumbed down quad, so either or will be fine though.
I would hold off a bit till the x2 555BE comes out or the x3 740BE comes out, as those will be the new C3 stepping, and much better CPU's for you to use.

Honestly, I would grab an Athlon II 630. Quad Core for multi tasking with only a 5% hit from a Phenom II at the same clock speed. Best part is it OC's easily to at least 3.2 with the Stock Cooler on stock voltage.

The thing that worries me I've only started overclocking on these BE chips so pretty easy change the multiplier, change volts, stress/temps and job is done where as these Athlons are not and not sure about adjusting Ram speeds and HT speeds?
If you're not experienced, then get the BE. That's what it is made for.

This is the first rig I've ever built or OCed and I have a locked multi.

im going to go with the x2 550 because even tho its a dual core it has a huge amount of l3 cache and in the end will perform better with most games. there are not many around that can use more than 2 cores regardless if you have more than 2. If you plan to be running multiple resource sucking multi threaded aps then id say an Athlon II X4 would be better but for day to day use + movies and games you will gain more performance with the PhenomII x2.
Thanks Dark, well I'm hoping with some help, and well spent time tweaking to hit atleast 3.8ghz or break the 4ghz mark which should be possible with a decent cooler.
make suer that you try to unlock the extra core, you never know you might get a X4 for the price of the X2, I did, nothing like a 3.8GHZ X4 for the price of the 720 X3
Not sure if I can on my motherboard?
Its a processor to bridge the gap until later next year when I go mad build from scratch when all the new releases are on the market.
