System 2 is better as long as u dont mind the price of ddr3
system 1 has bad ram, as a member of this site i would assume your going to overclock and that ram has no cooling, you could do much better.
setup 1 has patriot vipers. I see cooling and heatsinks on the ram.
ddr3 is not worth it, imo.

8 gigs dd2> 4 gigs ddr3
2nd one. quadcore + 8gb. more futureproof for larger and heavier applications that is

dude if you have cash to spurge on it..setup 1..but the rams on it are weak..go for the DDR3 1600 or up..

if not that expensive and you want Xtreme performance add some spice on setup 2..like a wicked DDR2 1200(Corsair dominators) on those..
If you can spend more Setup 1. Setup 2 is price/performance king
I have enough for either.
Awesome thanks for the suggestion.
I cant if I go AM3 and DDR3.
AM2+ wont fit in a AM3 motherboard I thought?
go am2 with ddr2 patriot vipers. fast ram, cheap and runs 1066 @1.9v
AM3 is only like $25.00 bux more in my case. IMO it might be worth it for the future.

It's a Phenom II X3 which isn't a quad core. It's a tri-core. I'd suggest going Setup 1 because DDR3 will eventually become the accepted mainstream memory standard. I'd also recommend the Phenom II X4 810 instead of the 710.

future is with AMD 8 series chips equipped with SATA3 tech and new IGP's the AMD 7 series is meant for AM2/AM2+..so IMHO i'll settle with the AM2+ build with the patriot vipers or corsairs and wait till Q4 for the new AMD 8 series chips..
as of now the 790 series chips for AM3 still performs the same with the AM2+ series..so shifting at this time is still not practical..
