I used to get that on my old 9500... it was overheating. Check temps, then try new drivers if you're not on the latest ones.

You could just go into the CCP and switch it off.

No VPU recove happens when theres an issue with the following.

1. Problematic drivers
2. PSU instability
3. Overheating.

Check its temp in a program called ATI TOOL here:http://www.techpowerup.com/atitool/ and tell us what temp you get.

As for installing new drivers for it do the below :

Installing Graphic card driver efficiently!!! When you Update your graphics cards drivers theres ways that you should go about it. Follow these simple steps below.

1.Download and install ''Driver Cleaner'' Here:
http://www.drivercleaner.net/professional.html
2.Uninstall your Current Display drivers such as your ''ATI'' or ''Nvidia'' drivers.
3.Now run ''Driver cleaner'' and depending on the Drivers you have you will have to select either ''ATI'' or ''Nvidia'' from the drop down menu. Only select the main title of the driver in the drop down such as just ''ATI'' or ''Nvidia''
4.Once you have selected Your driver click on the ''Start'' button and this will now start the driver cleaning process. ( Do this twice to be sure )
5.Now reboot your system and Download the latest Nvidia or ATI and go ahead and install them.

Doing this avoids driver corruption and conflicts so you can now enjoy smooth gameplay.

As for a Power Issue can you please tell me the specifications of your PSU such as th Watts and Amperage on the 12v rails...Such information can be found on the sticker on the side of your PSU.

Well indeed it doesnt have a temp monitor. Even if it is IceQ it may run hot due to a faulty or not very well installed cooler.

Apperantly you don't know much about electronics. When the GPU starts getting load (Windows has a FPS limiter, which does that the GPU doesn't overheat, and only has to update with ONE texture (VERY simple task), therefore it runs cooler than in games.
And no, it doesn't have a temp. diode/thermostat etc.

And yes, it can easily be too hot.

Ohlol how can i have missed that.
Driver conflicts could easily have been the problem.

If it still messes up, I join the crowd that suspects your temps. You might have applied too much thermal past, or not screwed on the cooler tightly enough. The fact it does crash after a few minutes really indicated temperature problems.

Finally, the other posibility is a PSU that's just not up to the task, but I would expect reboots in that case.
