im pretty sure this has been posted already, but like you said the search function is broken on schedule every two days almost
.

the general consensus was :

ATI owner = LOL ATI FTW look at those fail minimum FPS.

Nvidia owner = Premature drivers noobs! wait for the real benchmarks with proper drivers and not a preview.

40nm cards, not 45nm

Just like I said before the 4870 X2 is highly competitive with the GTX 295. In one case it still beats it. 5fps difference in the Crysis test doesn't make this card superior to the 4870 X2 because it's a game optimized for nvidia hardware.

In the latest games it seems that Nvidia has the edge with their various optimizations. At the same time ATI seems to have lost that edge in the newest games.
When the 4870 first came out the games tested at the time showed strong AA performance.
They should have used the 1 GB 4870 imo. Better for those resolutions.

the bad thing about these results is that they are both games that ati has done poorly with in the past. Crysis is nvidia optimized, and ati has had problems with FC2 to the point where they needed to release a hotfix, both games favor nvidia

Yea, I thought about that...why put a 512MB card vs. a 1GB card? Either way most of these test are useless for the majority of us because 1. we don't game at 2560x1600 and 2. about 95% of the people won't have the 295/X2, lol.

Yes, lets test a 512mb card against a 1gb card at high res with AA. That's fair!

4870 512 vs. 280 @ high res w/AA is about the most pointless test I could imagine.

Yea... I'd rather see a HD4870 1GB vs. the 280GTX. I'm surprised a lot of reviewers are still using the 512MB. The 1GB is much more suited to compete with the GTX280. Lols at the difference between the performance of resolutions for Crysis 4x AA.

Ugh, Tom'sHardware FTL...

But it appears that the 295 beats it most of the time, time will tell if this is true

You better believe it! These cards are beasts. I just got mine and OCed it. I'm loving it......stays nice and chilly with my water block. The only downside is that we can't control voltage via the BIOS. I'm not about to take a soldering iron to this card
