vulnerability to opening ports

I want to run Abyss Web server off my computer and in allowing people to access it i have to open up port 80 on my router and i know there is a very high risk when doing that. Is there a way that i could do it aswell as keeping my computer safe? right now for protection i am running AVG, Spybot, and Malware Bytes. I have got suggestions to Get a firewall but i have windows firewall. Is that not enough? basically i want to remain completely safe so any suggestions on programs etc. that will help me do that will be much appreciated thank you

Port 80 should be open anyway.. that's the internet port

not incoming -- only port 80 outgoing should be open by default.

even when is is closed or stelthed by a firewall, it opens when you start a browser session, or IM session.

Use a software firewall in your case and you should be fine. Just make sure all computers on your network have software firewalls too.
so windows fire wall is not sufficient enough? i need another software firewall correct?
the only way i'd ever use windows as a web server is if it was in a VM on some *nix server. no, windows firewall is not advisable. it's lol-able.
If you really want to get a firewall, get norton. /sarcasm

I would search into using Comodo Firewall. I personally don't run a software firewall, however, good things have come from that software.

No inbound connections are allowed by default. When you create a connection outbound then it allows traffic just through that session.

I also suggest Comodo or ZoneAlarm. Make sure you do some research on it though because a misconfigured firewall is a hackers dream.

Windows Firewall is only inbound only.

I wouldn't say you're at risk. Port 80 looks for web servers(unless instructed otherwise, in which case it shouldn't respond, or else you wouldn't be posting this)... So any other machine would return an unresponding web service... So it shouldn't affect them. If you want to open port 80 and feel risky about it, you could always have a login on your webpage(using .htaccess can work if you're on Apache or something similar for Abyss whatever it is). You could probably(at least usually) just redirect it to another port. Either directly on your Abyss Website or on your firewall(re-direct external port 12345 to port 80 on your machine) to at least cover people scanning your IP, I guess.

I run my system in my routers DMZ and I have yet to ever be attacked. I'm pretty sure most people are just paranoid about their security. What is a hacker going to find on your computer mp3's and pr0n?

Hmm..so what is your IP?

Its not just about what they can find. Its about them taking over your machine and making it do what they want.
