Wait semi-happy or wait empty handed?

Should I get an 4870 for 154$ to keep me happy until the prices drop for the 5850's and 5870's. Or should I just not waste that money and wait out without a GPU?

Keep in mind, all I have right now is: PSU, Case, Monitor, HDDs on the way (newegg BF deal!).
MOBO in about a week maybe, and maybe processor in about a week.

My rig is going to be my current sig rig with some slight changes.

If you want some money go with 5770 CF it is better and cheaper than 5850 and little slower than 5870.
Why not get something inexpensive that still has some firepower, such as a 4850 or 4770? You can always flip them to someone else without losing too much money.

Or even just one 5770 will be as good as a 4870...and you could crossfire later.

Yea, that is what I was thinking of doing by buying this one. But the 150$ is bothering me, and I know all the prices for GPUs are going to drop soon, so this weill resell for prob much less by then.

100% + in bench testing.

why not get a cheap card like an 8800gt to hold you over while you save up for a 5970?
Ok, so a 5770 goes for 171$ at NewEgg.

So, now, I will obviously dish out 20$ extra for a 5770. However, I don't know if I should get something really cheap like a 8800 and just wait it out.

When are the GTX300 series coming out?

i'd still go with the 5770, the overclocking should give the card even more longativity and should max out most games just fine

I've gotten an open box 4850 from newegg for $70, and an open box 4830 for $60.

Get something like that, clock it until it bleeds, and rock it until the prices drop on 5850's.

Trust me, the 5850 is a joy to own. I like it even better than the 5870 that I used to have because it runs a lower core voltage, and so is cooler and quiter, yet still amazingly powerful.

There was a radeon 4850 in the classifieds for $75, you might want to give the classifieds a look.
Get like a 9600GSO or some older Nvidia card and when you get your ATI card use the Nvidia one for Physx
