Got an Asus Z170-E. Previously ran a modified BIOS to be able to base clock OC my i5 6400, but after upgrading to a 7700K I needed to update the BIOS. I since killed the 7700K (oops) and am now back to using my i5 6400 - but Asus blocked flashing to the modified BIOS.

There are a few people selling BIOS chips on eBay and I've contacted them about flashing the modified BIOS instead of flashing the latest official BIOS but haven't gotten a response yet.

I've heard of external programmers such as the Genius G540 and was wondering if:

a) would it work on my BIOS chip
b) anyone use them/suggestions for alternatives

Hopefully someone knows something about these things

Welp, the eBay guy just got back to me and said it would be no problem to flash the BIOS I requested onto the chip.

$15 but it's going to ship from Thailand ... expected delivery December 28th - January 28th
