the BEST one you could buy is this if money is no issue. its supported by Xbox and can do 1080p.

http://www.blackmagic-design.com/products/intensity/

if your on a budget.

this card

http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...capture%20card

for only $80 has all you need. it can receive tv channels and do recording but you dont have HDMI/DVI inputs like the other card.

Thats a PCI-e 1x plus it has bad reviews. It may capture, but at bad quality. Try to find something nicer.

I've heard good things about the Dazzle: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...-029-_-Product

It's supposed to be very easy to set up.

HD PVR. Dazzle blows, it's 100% hype. I've helped a member over here with a Dazzle, and he eventually just got a HD PVR.

The Intensity doesn't do hardware compression, which is pretty bad. You'd have to get a top of the line, overclocked-to-the-limit computer to even dream about encoding 30 fps 1080p in realtime.

You can connect an over-the-air tuner to the HD PVR if you like.

Do you know if the blackmagic card supports recording from an HDTV cable box? Been looking for a card to do that for ages, but last I heard it was held up by some patent holders or something.

Now I know how they do TV show rips haha.

Yeah, I really don't know. All these cards look good.
They use an OTA tuner or they use a tuner that takes a CableCARD and coaxial input (1, 2). Both methods output a decrypted MPEG-2 TS, which is written to disk. There is never encoding involved, unlike with games (where the video is not already compressed). TV rips are encoded a little after they are captured.
The Intensity Pro would work well for you.
I in fact have one that I used for Xbox 360 captures over HDMI.
Also used for PS3, but you must use component due to the HDCP over HDMI PS3 uses (still looks great though).

No longer have time to do capture work really so I am looking to sell it.
Comes with retail box and original items and is about three months old.

The Intensity Pro supports HDMI/Component capture of 480i, 720p, and 1080i.
It uses a PCI Express 1x slot and allows for compressed and uncompressed capture.
99% of all games on the Xbox 360 render at 720p by the way.

Let me know if you are interested.
Can send photos and link my ebay account for feedback.
