i've had a few distro's over the past couple years. but i've never really tried any to a great extent. because im not fond of dual booting (dont like having to choose which OS, or, forgetting to choose and needing to reboot) but now that im playing with Vista (no wireless support for me ) i figure now is the time to try/learn.

i just have NO clue where to begin
so i'll give you the info i think you may need to know to help me
System is
p4 3.0E @3.85
2gb ddr500
2x80Gb maxtor 7200 rpm
evga 7800 GS AGP

my partitions are as follows
c:\\ = windows xp pro sp2 (8gb free)
d:\\ = Vista + XP pagefile (8gb free)
f:\\ = all my ISO's and mp3's (22.5gb free)

im even concidering dropping my vista install, since i cant activate it without calling, and i dont care that much lol

so, what one should i try? easy to learn on, but not idiot proof, so i can still LEARN something would be nice thx

Go here and download this free software:
http://www.vmware.com/products/player/
Install it and go here:
http://www.vmware.com/vmtn/appliances/directory/
And download a virtual image of whatever you want to play with. They have several Linux distro's.

Now you can play all day long inside WIndows without having to reboot or boot to a CD or install a new partition etc...VMWARE is the bomb.

i've got quite a bit of experience with VMware it IS the bomb. its how i studied for most of my certifications with cisco and M$
i dont mind doing a real install for it. just curious what distro is the *best* to start with. not too advanced, but not too idiot proof. figuring crap out is my fav. way to learn. i find once you do figure it out you have a far better understanding of how it works

Linux is 'free' on the CD case for ubuntu that it is encouraged to make copys of the CD and distribute them and modify them in anyway you want

You can't play games, The ones you can don't work great, and Gaim is an instance messaging client and you will have to reinstall and modify your linux OS to your liking, Very boring when it first comes
