Ways to improve sound clarity?

1078 Views 11 Replies 8 Participants Last post by  pohtangina
I've found that the music playback in winamp sounds kinda weak compared to WMP, unfortunately I HATE WMP for playback of anything. I've used Winamp for years and for the most part love it, it just sounds rather held back.

Are there any tweaks I can do to improve the oomph factor from my soundcard without spending any money?

I'm using an Audigy 4 and Senn HD477s.

WinAmp supports ASIO and WASAPI for bit-transpatent playback, you may notice a difference by bypassing the windows mixer.

im guessing that the omph is the warmth that wmp adds to music. if so play with the eq till you get your omph back. and yes aiso and wasapi is good too.

How do you do that? Just chose my output as the Audigy instead of Default Windows Device?

(rep for all)

ASIO4ALL (which you need to download [and install offline settings]) takes the information from your player (Say Winamp or Foobar2000) and directly sends it to your video card processor (DAC/OPAMP).

Windows XP Audio:

Windows Vista+ Audio:

Wasapi is the same as ASIo. I havent had much luck with WASAPI though and im on windows 7.

Only drawbacks is that you cannot adjust the volume via windows. It must be done through the audio player- and if you have you headphones or something directly connected to your sound card- high volumes..well are really high (must have the settings on low volume to listen). This only applies to that situation, if you had an amp for headphones/speakers- you can adjust the output there.

Well the headphones go through my speaker set first which has a built in volume slider so no worries there.

Thanks alot mate, I'll give this a try when I'm done with this mind numbing four hour lecture.

I highly recommend Foobar instead of Winamp. Just my 2cents. I personally don't like winamp xD

Or, use Creative Media Player. I like that

I wont touch anything Creative again, too much BS from that company. But the Foobar comment, why Foobar? Does it have better sound quality? I love the Winamp layout and I've been using Winamp for easily 10+ years.

I love WinAmp also. I don't like the way I can't encode MP3's but for playback? I like!
Use foobar with the ASIO support addon. Soudns great and music management is easy.
