Hello all,

I recently swapped out a lot of parts from my main PC. Got a new case, motherboard, etc.; I thought maybe some people would be interested in the changes in my benchmark results.

During the upgrade I flipped from Asus M3N78 Pro (nVidia nForce730/GF8300 board) to Asus M4A87TD Evo. (AMD NB870 SB850 board)

Here's the order of the benchmarks, for those interested. Draw your own conclusions.

A) M3N78 Pro - AHCI Mode
B) M4A87TD Evo - AHCI Mode
C) M4A87TD Evo - IDE Mode

HDTune v255 Read:

CrystalDiskMark v300f 50MB Test:

CrystalDiskMark v300f 1000MB Test:

My old board: (Asus M3N78 Pro)
  • Seems to have lower access times.
  • Queues read requests better.
  • Has a higher sequential read speed.
My new board: (Asus M4A87TD Evo)
  • Seems to have higher access times.
  • Has higher 512K read/write speeds.
  • Doesn't queue requests very well.
Edit: Tests run on XP SP3, Catalyst 10.8, nForce 15.45

Edit2: HDTune Settings - Accurate & 1MB block size

Nice benches, would be interested to read about the same drives in RAID and their performance changes between the motherboards

I only have one 640GB Black. My next upgrade will either be an SSD or a 2TB Black.

But if someone wants to donate one, I'll do all the tests.
