I want to know which one is faster...

i benched both of them, the AALS came out with mininum 110ish MB and the raptor was only 80ish MB...

obviously the AALS is faster but i've been told that the raptors are actually doing better coz of the 10k rpm?

Squential performance isn't everything (read about SSD: http://www.overclock.net/hardware-ne...-ssds-new.html)

Check random read/writes.

i think i am blind coz i can't find anything related to AALS nor raptor 74gb. the closest thing i found is WD velociraptor comparing to SSDs (but how is it related to my topic ?).

thank you very much.

The 74GiB raptors are old and are not any faster than a good, modern, 7200rpm drive, overall.
With the dense 320GiB platters of the 6401/6400, you are equaling the performance of a Raptor drive (I have both currently).
The last gen Raptors are louder, more hot, and small. The only difference is random seek times, which is obviously going to be better on a 10k drive. With the huge 32mb cache and dense platters though, unless you get a great deal (like I did), there's no point in buying one at regular price.
They may be old but they are still 10k rpm which will make their random read/writes slightly faster than a standard 7200rpm drive.

However....

The 640GB AALS is a very fast drive, I know because I have 3. To be honest I think considering the raptor has a measly 74GB of space and is so old now... Its worthless.

640GB of space and similar performance, if not faster.... This is a no brainer!
