My second rig has E5400 @ 3,7Ghz and a HD 6970, what settings to make the game run smooth? What resolution?

What games?

I don't know how Pentium compares to Athlon, but I played through ME2 with an unlocked Sempron fine, maxed out (no AA) at 1680*1050. I would wager most games will run fine since you have a great video card, not to mention the overclock.

What game? It's not like an E5400 is the same as running a P4, give it a little more credit then that.

if you play FPS's, running any resolution other than your monitor's native resolution is not advised. I'd dumb down the graphics way before i touched resolution. If you run a lower resolution (taking for granted your monitor will rescale it fullscreen to its native resolution) you will just add delay.
