Hi All,
I am working on a web application for no real reason apart from wanting to learn more about web application devalopment.

What better way to learn and share than to set up an development log

What the application will do is take data from a database and display it on a website using charts and graphs.At this early stage I am open to suggestions I'm not doing this because I want a final product I am doing it to learn and share the experience with others.

Language's im using

Php
Java script
Jquery
Ajax
Bootstrap for the css
High charts

I will be sharing code and asking for help and ideas as I go and welcome anyone to get involved if they wish. I have a good vps I can give people access to if they wish to get involved and also have a in browser IDE so there is no need to upload your work

I have also started another project that allows you to watch your media files in a web browser from anywhere so I will see how this goes and possibly create more development logs.

Code examples and screenshots to come

Code Snippet

This is the code I am working on at the moment.

Trying to get a son response and use the data in the chart.

Code:

Code:
<script>
 $(function chartdata (data) {
    $('#charta').highcharts({
        title: {
            text: 'Weekly activity for the week ending .....',
            x: -20 //center
        },
        subtitle: {
            text: 'Might not have a sub title',
            x: -20
        },
        xAxis: {
            categories: ['Mon', 'Tue', 'Wed', 'Thur', 'Fri', 'Sat',
                'Sun']
        },
        yAxis: {
            title: {
                text: 'KM'
            },
            plotLines: [{
                value: 0,
                width: 1,
                color: '#808080'
            }]
        },
        tooltip: {
            valueSuffix: 'km'
        },
        legend: {
            layout: 'vertical',
            align: 'right',
            verticalAlign: 'middle',
            borderWidth: 1
        },
        series: [{
            name: 'Walk',
            data:
        },
        {
            name: 'Run',
            data: [5.1, 0.0, 6.4, 0.0, 0.0, 0.0, 0.0]

        }
        ]

        }  });
 });

       $.ajax({
        url: 'getdata.php',
        type: 'GET',
        async: true,
        dataType: "json",
        success: function (data) {
            chartdata(data);
});
What I know I should change is wrap this in a document.ready function.

I am also thinking I should not only pass one set of data to this page I should pass all of the data in one ajax get json statement then organise the data so it can be used. Anyone have any thoughts on this?

If anyone is interested I will post all of the project files.

The application will take data from a database and display it in graphs.i was thinking of using fitnes data so you can track walks and runs etc. At this early stage I am open to suggestions I'm not doing this because I want a final product I am doing it to learn and share the experience with others.

make sure you look out for security bugs like XSS and sql injection when working with Databases
