I didn't know where to post this and here seemed as good a place as any.

To cut a long story short, one of our cats was either stolen or released from the cattery in which it resides. This has my mam all freaked out. So, my dad has given me the task to come up with a system to monitor the back garden and video\ake lots of pictures of anyone who comes in and out of the garden. Being able to see the video on the TV is a must and to view the camera on the laptop is a major bonus. The setup must be power friendly.

My plan is to use a combination of an old PII rig, Tux ( Ubuntu - I can't find my fedora disk ) a webcam and some good old GPL software. This here is my log.

Oh yeah, It needs doing by morning (its 01:22am).

01:22

Running Memtest86+ to see if the memory I found in my box of cables is good. So far so good. The specs of the P2 are as follows:

Pentium 2 400mhz
256mb of Mismatched CL3 RAM (1x128 & 2x64mb Modules)
6.5GB Hard drive
ATI Rage Pro Turbo AGP Graphics card (Soon To be replaced with a 9200 because it has a TV out)
Trusty old Realtek PCI 10\\100 Full Duplex NIC
Some POS CD-ROM (soon to be removed to save power)

Overclocking is a no no on this BIOS, boys and girls

Memtest86+ is about a quarter of the way through the first pass. This is the ONLY pass I'm doing. All I wanna know is, does the RAM work. Once this has completed I will move on to install Ubuntu Dapper Drake. Have a shower and a coffee. Install the relavent software (Apache, A cam viewer etc). Give 'er a test run and go to sleep. Or so is the plan.
