So my EVGA GTX580 just arrived...
While I'm downloading my Steam games (just formatted my PC), I was playing WOW (cause it's the only game I have atm) and look my FPS:

Is this normal?

When I look at EVGA Precision it says only 32% of the gpu is being used, and my processor is only at 42% of usage too...

Weird, isn't it ?
(Resolution is set to 1440x900 and all settings on ultra)

Do you tab out often? That usually causes the FPS to get stuck in the 30's.

Restarting WoW is generally the only fix for that problem.

Wow is a very very cpu intensive game, I'm no expert but i'll assume you're bottlenecking the gtx 580/ and your CPU just can't keep up.

Actually, I play it on windowed mode, so yes... I tab a lot, but I mean, I just upgraded from a HD4870 and I used to get 34FPS on THAT card with ultra settings, this is really weird...

I mean, I'm in the center of StormWind city, which is always kinda lagged due to lots of players there, but I was still waiting a huge upgrade when I bought this card...

Also, I have Vsync off and even when I'm all alone in my screen the FPS do not pass 70-80... And I'm not even playing on my 42" TV, it's on my 19" monitor..

My CPU usage is actually at 42%, so I don't think it's a CPU bottleneck...

cpu bottleneck, the more people around, the worse it will be.

Wow only uses 2 cores, and only one of them is typically running close to 100%, the other is usually around 78% when it is maxed out.

Otherwise if you see usage across all cores it's just windows thread spreading, rest assured the game will only use two cores at the same time.

WoW is a CPU intensive game. Your quad can more than handle it fine. Your 580 wont make much of a difference.
Example: My old comp. C2Duo E8400 @ 4Ghz, single 4890: 40+ FPS on Ultra when it became avail.
Also, Shadows, whether enhanced, high, med or low. Are coded very horribly in WoW. Just search the official forums. You'll find alot of posts about them. Turn Shadows OFF and watch FPS jump.

For those wondering why WoW is CPU intesive. Reason: Everything on the screen is first detected and established by the CPU. Only certain textures, and effects are then passed on to the GPU for processing. Most of the basic polygons are processed by the CPU. However, the game itself wont use much past 2 thread itself.

WoW is very CPU dependant, as everyone else has said. Test done showed that, even while the cpu cores weren't running at 100%, faster CPU performed significantly better.

Overclocking my cpu from stock to 4.6ghz yielded almost 8fps more in some places :s

With 5850 I got 50fps + in Orgrimmar everything set on ultra at 1920x1080, thats weird reading you got there. Try to run fraps and tell what fps does it show.
