Weird problem

Not sure what to make of this problem. So this morning I walk in and my computer put itself to sleep last night. I push the power button and nothing. I then turned off the psu, turned it back on and pushed the power button. The computer came on and was fine all day (never went off or was turned off), I walk in this evening and the computer was asleep, push the power button and nothing. So I turned off the psu and the computer came on. I have been doing so testing and the computer will never come back from sleep, I unplugged everything and cleared the cmos. Now the computer will not come on at all. I jumped the psu (with a wire) and it came on and ran fine. I checked my voltages (not that it is amazingly accurate) on the desktop before I turned off the system the last time. The switch is good on the computer. So any ideas? Mobo or PSU?

Wow, no joke, I was about to make a new thread until I read yours. I'm having the same problem.

*There are times when my power supply is on, the LED on the mobo says power from the rail is being supplied to the 24pin, and when I press power to turn on the computer, it will turn on for < 1 second and then turn off. The LED next to the 24 pin goes out too.

*There are times when the above situation gives no problems at all when turning on the computer, but once I restart or shutdown, the LED next to the 24 pin goes out as well.

Honestly, I think this is one of mobo voltage more than anything. I like you, isolated my PSU and jumped it, having it connected to several fans and HDs, and it works okay. I have been running my Q6600 @ 3.6 at a Vcore of 1.4825 for about 1 1/2 years, and although it never gets close to getting above 65C, I can only imagine that my hardware is degrading from the wear and tear (games, stress tests, etc), so now it wants more voltage to compensate. I'll let the veterans chime in; just wanted to give me 2cents and let you know that you're not alone!!

Having the computer in a powered state, I have Restarted, put to Sleep, and Shutdown with all three yielding the same result. The momentary short circuit where power is cut off leads to the 24pin power LED to cut off.

In other words, the computer basically shuts down regardless of what option I pick, and the LED turns off, even though my PSU is still switched on, and nothing has been physically modified. Pushing the power button = nothing since Power LED off = No power to mobo.

You both use the same PSU and I had the same one die on me previously. I would say its the PSU but you need to jump it and check the rails with a multimeter. Also while doing this I would put some load on the PSU.

Looked it up on Newegg and searched through the users comments and there were about 60 complaints about the PSU dying in a year and a half or less....
